AOPA BASIC AEROBATICS CERTIFICATE

AOPA Basic on a Robin 2160i

Having experienced Aerobatics in the Yak and the Chippy as well as Upset Training at Ultimate High I obviously wasn't satisfied with unusual attitudes in aeroplanes. However, what I'd not really explored is competition aerobatics. Having been a judges assistant at the 2011 meet at Sleap I was blown away by the professional way in which it was organised as well as the professionalism shown all by the pilots on the day. With a view to joining in competitions I signed up with Ontrack Aviation at Wellesbourne to do the Entry Level AOPA Basic Aerobatics Course. Originally I'd booked the Chipmunk but as it turned out the weather was quite iffy and logistically the chippy would have taken up quite a chunk of ground time. The Robin 2160i however was get up and go aircraft and as I found out quite a capable little aerobat. Definitely fell for it.

One of the main things I took from this course apart from the huge daft grin was the airmanship aspects of performing aerobatics were tightened up considerably making the whole affair of flying aeros safer for me and anyone who happens to share the same airspace. That can only be a good thing. Great introduction to competition aerobatics.

What follows are my revised notes at the end of everyday with the days learnings recorded; Corrospondingly the RAF style de-brief is pasted at appropriate lessons.
